In today's hyperconnected world, online security isn't just for experts — it's a fundamental life skill. Whether you're shopping online, using social media, or working remotely, understanding basic cybersecurity practices can protect you from the majority of threats.

Password Management

The foundation of online security starts with strong, unique passwords. Use a password manager to generate and store complex passwords. Never reuse a password.

Two-factor authentication (2FA)

Activate 2FA on each account that supports it. This adds an extra layer of security beyond your password.

Recognizing phishing

Learn how to identify phishing attempts by carefully checking sender addresses, avoiding clicking on suspicious links, and never providing personal information in response to unsolicited requests.

Software updates

Keep all of your software up to date. Security patches fix known vulnerabilities. Activate automatic updates when possible.

Safe browsing habits

  • Use HTTPS sites for sensitive transactions
  • Be careful with public Wi-Fi networks
  • Use a VPN on untrusted networks
  • Review your privacy settings regularly

Back up your data

Regular backups allow you to recover your data in the event of ransomware or hardware failure. Follow the 3-2-1 rule: three copies, two types of media, one offsite.
